Apr. 27, 2009  -  What's Happening

Hey all, I am posting this on both of my blogs because it has to do with photography, and my personal life (beckersblog.com and thebschoolblog.com)

Jessica Claire and I are headed to Sweden next week for a couple of speaking engagements. Jessica is speaking on the 5th in Stockholm and I am speaking on the 6th, then we have a few days off before Jessica speaks in Gothenburg on the 12th and I follow her again on the 13th before heading home the following day.

Now is where I need your help. We have 5 full days between workshops to explore Sweden, Scandanavia and possible northern Europe and we are looking for suggestions of what to do.

WE ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE ANY FIRM PLANS UNTIL WE ARRIVE. Aside from the airfare to get to Sweden and the hotels the nights we are speaking... we have no reservations, no plane or train tickets pre purchased and we decided that we were just going to be spontaneous and decide what to do once we get there! Having said that, we'd love to hear your suggestions for some possible day trips, outings, photo ops or what you think we should do with our time.

And yes, we know all about this.

&sendHey all, just a public service announcement for all [ b ] Schoolers (or future [ b ] Schoolers) in the UK. A few people have organized a little GTG in Barnsley on April 29th (that is NEXT WEDNESDAY). All of the details are in this thread.

If you aren't a [ b ] Schooler yet and can't read that thread, it's at the Brooklands Hotel around 11am and you can contact Hayley Ruth for more info. Perhaps you'll meet some new folks and want to join up afterwards. The [ b ] School is all about helping photographers connect with one another on line and in life. Perhaps the photographers in your area aren't real keen on helping each other out, well... we are looking to change that with the [ b ] School and by helping you connect with other like minded photographers.

Unfortunately I am not going to be able to attend this event, but I am hoping to be a speaker at SWPP next year, so perhaps y'all can help me out by contacting people at SWPP and telling them you'd like to see me speak. We'll have another big get together when I make it over there.

For all of you UK photographers who are going to be there, help get the word out by sharing this post! The more the merrier right?

I know this may not be exactly breaking news, but it was exciting to me when i found out about it, so I wanted to share. The version you'll need is 4.6 or later and you can download it at camerabits.com. Another cool feature is that when you are done editing and have renamed the keepers you can upload them straight to Smugmug for your safe, offsite back up. There are other new features too that you can read about on the website!

Hey all, I am headed to Denver next week for a modified Party of 5 workshop and I'd love to get together with some local photographers afterwards. I'll be at the Blake Street Tavern around 7:30pm on April 22nd if you'd like to join us. You are on your own for drinks and food, but it would be cool to meet some new people and see some old friends.

If someone wants to host a late night poker tournament afterwards, I am fine with that too!

Please RSVP in the comments below if you'd like to come, so we can tell the bar how many folks to expect.

***ALSO*** One slot opened up for the workshop. If you are interested in attending, send me a note and I'll give you the details. (thebecker at mac dot com)

Feel free to use the inappropriate joke I told to get this great reaction from your couples. Real, genuine smiles.

And a few from the students who uploaded some shots to Facebook:

And special thanks to Glen for being a wonderful host and taking care of every last detail. It was a pleasure!

Apr. 13, 2009  -  Product/Service Reviews

Hey class,

I just wanted to give y'all a heads about about a cool new service that might be able to help you book more weddings and bigger packages. Fellow [ b ] Schooler Mark Gardner has been working on something called Wed-Pick, which in a nutshell, is a wedding package and presentation tool designed for wedding and portrait photographers.

Check out the Demo to see it in action. It's a slick way to help your clients spend more money and/or customize their package.

As always, I am never a big fan of putting your complete pricing info on the website because you don't want people to just download your prices and compare them to the next guy (or girl). You want people to contact you so you have a chance to connect with them even if only on the phone. This Wed-Pick solution could easily be set up on a hidden page on your site and you can send the clients the direct link after they've called or emailed you and are ready to book. It looks like an easy way for clients to customize their package and give you money. I've always stressed how important it is to make it easy for people to give you money and it looks like Wed-Pick will do just that. Check out the Demo now!

It's only $99 and for a limited time, [ b ] Schoolers get it for only $69 by entering BSCHOOL at checkout.
